Which Window Treatments Are the Most Privacy Friendly?04/30/2018Matt Thelander Your home is your sanctuary, and if you think like most homeowners, getting New York City window treatments that give you privacy and sound blocking to maintain your sanctuary is important to you. Any window covering is more effective than an uncovered window. However there are some window treatments that give you more privacy than others, even on hard to cover windows. Providing Privacy on Specialty Windows All of the large, standard windows in your house are easy to cover with just about any window treatment such as New York City shutters, drapes, or blinds|. However, there are some situations when you need a particular kind of window treatment to achieve the level of privacy you need. These include: Windows in the bathroom where excess moisture can damage fabric window treatments. Sidelight windows that are long and thin on which window treatments can be jostled around by the door’s movement. Specialty-shape windows like eyebrows, circular windows, bay windows, etc., where normal rectangular blinds and curtains can’t cover your window without hiding the window’s unique shape. Large windows that are difficult to reach such as second-story foyer windows. In these instances, you’ll need window treatments that go the extra mile to provide privacy to your space. As a plus, find window treatments that offer good sound control to keep random noise outside and prevent neighbors from overhearing. The Window Treatments That Give You The Most Privacy The best window treatments for privacy that we recommend are Polywood® plantation shutters. Plantation shutters are able to fully close, for when total privacy and sound control is what you want. To let light in and see outdoors, just give the louvers a tilt. For tall or high windows, you can always position the louvers at an angle so light can come in but passersby can’t see in. Plantation shutters are also great for specialty-shaped windows because they can be customized to fit any shape or size. And since Polywood shutters are water resistant, they’re perfect for bathrooms. Another privacy-friendly window treatment is roller shades. Roller shades take up very little space above the window, but are easy to pull down to prevent anyone being able to see in your home. Though they can’t be cut to fit unique window shapes, you can find roller shapes in moisture-resistant material for areas like your bathrooms. Window Treatments that Don’t Make the Cut for Privacy While any window treatment adds a minimum amount of privacy, there are two that might not get the job done. The first is sheer curtains. Sheer curtains used to be popular a while back and can add a a light feeling to a room. Yet they’re fairly translucent and can be seen through fairly easily, particularly when it’s dark out. Another window covering that isn’t great for privacy are aluminum or heavy blinds, which can bend and/or get stuck at an angle. If you can’t completely close the blinds due to breakage, then they’re not providing much privacy at all. Ready for Window Treatments that Maintain Your Privacy?
