Craftsman Shutters and Other Custom Frame Options for New York City06/26/2017Dennis Rooney It doesn’t happen often, but we’ve heard a New York City homeowner or two claim that “all shutters look the same.” Let’s set the record straight – those claims couldn’t be further from reality. Many people don’t realize the number of options there are when it comes to shopping for plantation shutters in New York City, and the huge impact those options can have. One of the most important of those options is the frame style you choose for your shutters. New York City Custom Shutter Frames The options available to you for shutter frames will depend on four things primarily: How your window operates. The depth of the window sill. Whether you need to have an inside or outside mount. Your own personal taste. Some of our shutter frames are offered only in certain materials, like our Polywood® faux wood shutters, a few are exclusive to an inside or outside mount of a window, and some might just look better than others with your existing trim, like our Craftsman frame shutters, built for Craftsman style homes and only offered by Sunburst. Here are some of the most common shutter frames we recommend to New York City homeowners. Craftsman Frame Shutters - You can’t open a Better Homes and Gardens without seeing Craftsman style. This Sunburst-exclusive frame was created specifically for Craftsman style homes and homes with similar aesthetics. A Craftsman frame gives you a clean and simple look, so no part of your home looks gaudy compared to the rest. If utilizing Craftsman fashion is your desire, this is the frame for you. Currently available in Polywood and reclaimed wood shutters only. L-Frame Shutters - An L-frame is possibly the least complex and most functional type of shutter frame. They have a sleek, modern look, and are usually the easiest to work around if your window has a peculiar size or shape. The L-frame can be used as either an inside or outside mount, in case you want to keep your existing window trim, and is available in Polywood® faux wood shutters, Ovation® hardwood shutters, reclaimed wood shutters and Studio™ shutters. Z-Frame Shutters - Z-frames are a widely-chosen style because they give you a stylized, classy look on your window, similar to bass or crown molding. The name “Z-frame” comes from the shape of its exterior, which is mounted on the inside of the window jamb, but hugs the jamb and extends to the outside creating a “Z” figure. That extended shape means it can substitute for window trim if your windows don’t have any existing trim. Z-frames are available in for all of our shutter products. Decorative Frame Shutters - A decorative frame definitely lives up to its name. With lots of texture and an attention-grabbing shape, this frame is best used when you have no existing window trim, or if you want to cover your existing trim. Decorative frames are offered in Ovation and Polywood shutters only. Beyond the type of frame, there are still a lot of options for you to further customize your shutters. All of our frames can add on a sill piece attachment, in addition to other add-ons your installer can help you choose from.
